Sonihull expands into South Asia
Sonihull, the world’s leading ultrasonic antifouling system, hasappointed Aeromarine in Mumbai as an approved dealer forcommercial shippingand offshoreinstallations in South Asia.
“We are delighted to have appointed Aeromarine, as a distributor in South Asia,” says Darren Rowlands, CEO of Sonihull. “Aeromarine is considered to be one of the leading marine equipment specialists in the region and, with offices all along the Indian coast, has the ability to supply and service all kinds of applications in the region’s maritimesectors.”
From the Aeromarine headquartersin Mumbai, Aliasgar Patrawala(right), Director of Aeromarine Private Limited, said: “I am excited about the potential of this technology on all fronts –easy installation, zero environmental impact and savings of up to 90% compared to impressedcurrent antifouling systems. The Indian market can benefit widely with such a solution and the scope of applications istremendous. It is a pleasure to be working with Sonihull.”For one of their first installations, Aeromarine fitted a Sonihullsystemon ‘Ocean Star’(below), a 31m tug built in 2017 and owned by Ocean Sparkle of Chennai. Sonihull was used to curepersistent bio-fouling problems inthe sea chest gate-valveandtank topas well as on the bottom hull platingand the adjacent starboard shipside area.

There is no welding, cutting or drilling required and there are no expensive impressed current anodes to regularly replace. The mounting surface is cleaned back to flat, bare metal and the transducer mounting ring is epoxied to the cleansurface. Once the resin has set, the transducer is screwed into position to transmit a strong ultrasonic signal directly through the metal surface.
Microscopic ultrasound-induced cavitation disrupts the first stages of the food chain without damaging thesurface. Thisprevents the build-up of algae, slime and bigger, more complex organisms. The system is silent, self-monitoring and the movement of water on the protected surface prevents the adhesion of juvenile barnacles and mussels.
“In similar commercial applications, operators are saving up to 90% of their capital and maintenance costs when protecting raw seawater equipment like box coolers and sea chests with Sonihull instead of impressed-current antifouling systems,” added Rowlands. “Sonihull is a zero-harm solution. There are no poisons, or biocides leached into the marine environment, no microplastics are shed from ablative coatings and no toxic metallic ions are left in your wake.”
Protect your vessel
Sonihull’s mission is to deliver environmentally safe, cost effective antifouling wherever unwanted bio-fouling persists. Our vision is:
To make dosing the oceans with poisonous biocides and microplastics a thing of the past
To deliver effective antifouling systems using the power of ultrasound
To save the oceans, one ship at a time
